Karen J. Bricken
Karen J. Bricken is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a Holistic Health Practitioner, Board Certified by The American Association of Drugless Practitioners. She practices in Boulder, Colorado and also offers video and phone counseling.
Karen has practiced as a counselor since 2002, working with individuals, adolescents, couples, families and groups. She worked with adolescents, families and groups in an outpatient setting affiliated with the Contra Costa County Juvenile Drug Court in Richmond, California and then worked with individual women, adolescent girls, and couples at a women’s counseling center also in the San Francisco Bay Area of California. At the women's counseling center, she completed a 2-year training program and then an advanced training program in Relational Psychotherapy with a focus on social justice. After completing this training, she moved her practice to a private practice setting. She next worked with children, adolescents, adults and families in a practice at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.
As Karen worked with clients in her psychotherapy practice, with medical conditions and Food-Mood issues, such as cravings, emotional eating, low-energy, depression, anxiety and stress, she began to feel more committed to working with clients more holistically. And because she has always had a passion for healing the body and mind through nutrition and natural medicine, she decided to integrate nutrition and health counseling into her practice. Karen believes that much of our emotional, mental and physical ailments can be remedied through dietary modifications. She works with her clients to look at the whole person and all aspects of their life, so that together she and her clients can understand what is needed for sustainable wellness.
Karen received her Master's in Counseling Psychology from California Institute of Integral Studies. Her training to practice Health Counseling was received at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition.
